AI, creation and the genesis of legal personality.
Appleyard Lees’ Partner, and Head of litigation, Robert Cumming, presented at the CITMA Spring Conference in March 2024. on AI, creation and genesis of legal personality. In his presentation, now available as a webinar, Robert explores the historical developments which led to the concept of legal personality in English law and, through analysis of the latest case law, considers whether artificial intelligence may own and enforce intellectual property rights in a similar way to a company.
The presentation also covers the concept of legal personality in English law and analyses three key cases involving an invention machine called DABUS, litigation between Getty Images and an AI image generation business and ‘hallucinations’ in the form of AI generated case law:
