Charitable giving

Appleyard Lees is committed to supporting charities, to make a positive impact in the communities in which we live and work.

Our approach to charitable giving ensures we focus our efforts and maximise impact for a specific good cause, which changes year-to-year, as chosen by our people. We support organisations that create or enable innovation to make life better, through a programme of planned events designed in collaboration with our chosen good causes, to meet each organisation’s specific needs.

This year, we are supporting  Action Medical Research, an organisation that has funded medical breakthroughs since it began more than 70 years ago. In that time, they have helped to beat polio, fight meningitis, prevent stillbirths and even developed the ultrasound scanner used every day in pregnancy.

Today, Action’s work includes funding research to help children affected by asthma, epilepsy, allergies and long COVID. Medical research gives hope – hope for new treatments, hope for a cure and hope that no family will have to go through the heartbreak of losing a child too soon.

In previous years, our activity included:

  • In 2024 we supported Alzheimer’s Society as they directly fund an innovation team that co-create, search for and accelerate the best new and innovative solutions to provide help and hope for people living with dementia and their carers).
  • We supported Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity) in 2023 as they directly funded innovation, operated nationally and helped those affected by the death of a baby, before, during or shortly after birth.
  • In 2022, we recognised the importance of responding to global humanitarian challenges. While our chosen cause that year did not strictly align with our innovation-focused framework, we supported The British Red Cross in its vital work assisting those displaced or affected by war. This decision reflected our belief that, in times of crisis, supporting organisations that provide immediate relief and protection is just as important as fostering long-term innovation
  • Our chosen charity for 2021 was Devices for Dignity, a not-for-profit group that acts as a catalyst for the development of innovative medical devices, healthcare technologies and technology-dependent interventions for people with long-term, life-affecting conditions.

In addition to our charity of the year commitments, Appleyard Lees support Overgate Hospice and holds adhoc fundraising activities such as the Macmillan Coffee Morning.
