Oliver Rigg

Patent Attorney

MPhys

Oliver’s background in physics and his experience working in science communication and education enables him to offer straightforward and pragmatic patent advice to clients regardless of their level of familiarity with intellectual property.

Whilst he specialises in engineering, electronics, and physics-based inventions, Oliver is experienced in obtaining patent protection for medical devices, consumer electronics, artificial intelligence and telecommunications. He has a particular interest in renewable energy and audio technologies.

As a trainee patent attorney, Oliver enjoys getting to work with a wide range of people and technologies while putting his problem-solving skills and precise nature to good use.

Oliver has a first class Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Leeds, where he particularly enjoyed studying cross-disciplinary subjects like nanotechnology, biomedical physics, and quantum computing. After graduating, Oliver aimed to pursue a career that combined science and communication. Having worked as a science writer, textbook contributor and maths tutor, he joined the patent profession in 2023 and hasn’t looked back since!

Oliver was awarded the 2024 Keith Farwell prize for the candidate passing the UK’s trademark law exam with the highest mark.
