Many intellectual property articles relating to European patent law cover specific “cases” and “decisions” from the European Patent Office (EPO) such as “T 1473/19”. Some instead cover broader trends in areas of “caselaw” such as “Patentability of second medical use claims at the EPO”. This article aims to provide a helpful understanding of the wider system from which these new interpretations of law emerge.

On 18th April 2024 CIPA (the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys) hosted its annual Student Conference at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Birmingham. The event (aimed at trainee patent attorneys in the early stages of their career) involves a series of talks and is renowned for giving trainees across the UK the opportunity to connect and network with one another. The patent profession in the UK is fairly small, so there is a good chance the trainees at the student conference will continue to interact with each other throughout their careers.
Romania deposited its instrument of ratification of the Unified Patent Court Agreement on 31 May 2024, becoming the 18th member state to ratify the Agreement.
