Brexit: how will it affect my Intellectual Property?

Wednesday 8 June 2016

On 23 June 2016, the UK will vote in a referendum as to whether to remain in or leave the EU.  A remain vote means business as usual.  We are also prepared in case there is a vote to leave.  Either way, Appleyard Lees will be able to continue offering its services as we have always done.

Will a leave vote mean a change to European IP systems?  Sort of.  If the UK votes to leave the EU, nothing will change immediately and indications suggest the impact on European IP protection won’t be known for many years.  However, there will be continuity of rights and Appleyard Lees will continue to provide IP services across Europe whatever the final position might be.

We are monitoring the situation and will keep you updated on the options available as and when information is available. If you are concerned about how you may be affected then please do not hesitate to contact one of our specialists Paul Misselbrook at, Tel: +44(0) 1422 330110.
