David holds a PhD in Chemistry and is responsible for the patent matters of several major international chemical companies. David’s technical areas include pharmaceuticals, polymers, coatings (including paints), biotechnology and catalysts. He is also in charge of our Leeds office.
David has extensive experience in handling patent oppositions and taking oral proceedings at the European Patent Office and he frequently advises clients on patent infringement clearance for new products.
David qualified as a European patent attorney in 1996 and as a UK chartered patent attorney in 1999. Before joining Appleyard Lees in 1996 David trained both in private practice and in the patent and trade mark department of a large international law firm, having entered the patent and trade mark profession in 1992.
David is an active member of AIPPI and regularly attends the biannual conference.
