Bobby Smithson

Bobby handles matters involving chemical and mechanical patents as well as trade marks and designs. In particular, he has extensive technical experience in the fields of healthcare, pharmaceuticals, polymer chemistry, coatings and plastics. Bobby also has a breadth of experience in successfully representing clients at opposition and appeal hearings before the European Patent Office.

He joined the profession with our firm in 2002 after being awarded a first class honours degree in Chemistry from Leeds University. The third year of Bobby’s degree was spent at Pennsylvania State University, PA, USA where, as well as chemistry, he studied nuclear physics, IT and mathematics.

Bobby is an active member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and frequently attends and speaks at events. He has also lectured on behalf of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and has given presentations on UK and European patent law overseas. Bobby also regularly lectures at universities on the role of patents in the advancement of technology.

In 2009 Bobby was elected as a member of our Management team who are responsible for the day to day operations of the firm.
