James joined Appleyard Lees in August 2011 and is training with Jennifer Delaney and Bob Pidgeon to become a patent attorney specialising in the chemical field.
James obtained a first class MChem degree in chemistry from the University of Sheffield before moving to the University of Nottingham for his PhD studies on the synthesis of indole-diterpene natural products. After university, James worked as a Medicinal Chemist for GlaxoSmithKline in the gastro-intestinal and neuroscience therapeutic areas, specialising in the design and synthesis of potential drug molecules. This work resulted in James being named as a co-inventor on seven patent applications.
More recently, James completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law course at the University of Manchester, achieving a distinction.
James is based at our Manchester and Halifax offices.
