Dorothea joined Appleyard Lees in November 2011 and is training under the guidance of David Moy to become a trade mark attorney.
Dorothea is conversant in intellectual property law from both academic study and pro-bono work, serving as Student Director of the BPP Intellectual Property Pro-Bono Group, and managing the Leeds branch of Own-It – the free legal advice service for the creative industries. Having worked across the fields of journalism, publishing, music, marketing and retail, she has a strong commercial awareness of branding and rights exploitation.
In addition to the above, Dorothea has gained experience as a Licensing (liquor and gaming) Paralegal, working for the UK market-leader in licensed premises, before she completed the Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP Professional Education – her research project was evaluating trade mark protection for big brands in the context of the ‘average consumer‘. She proceeded to complete the Legal Practice Course, with Distinction; her legal studies were supported by the prestigious BPP Cohen Scholarship.
Dorothea graduated in English from the University of Birmingham in 2007.
