Andrew is a Patent Attorney in our Electronics and Software team and is based in our Leeds office. He works on inventions spanning a broad range of computing and electronic subject-matter and has particular experience in printing and imaging technologies. His work in the field of consumer electronics includes both prosecution of patent applications and successful defence of granted patents in opposition proceedings before the European patent office.
Andrew has a first class degree and a PhD in Computing from Leeds University. As an undergraduate, he spent a year working for two multinational computing consultancies which gave him a valuable insight into the commercial development of software. Andrew’s PhD research was in Artificial Intelligence, specifically the sub-field of Natural Language Processing. His research involved employing machine learning techniques to automatically identify linguistic phenomena. With first-hand experience in designing and implementing AI systems, Andrew is ideally placed to draft and prosecute applications across a whole spectrum of AI-related topics, including machine learning, bioinformatics, big data, computer vision and FinTech.
